Decorating Tips for Allergy Patients

Allergies can limit your decorating, since you may have to avoid anything that collects too much dust and even real flowers and plants. There are still plenty of ideas that you can incorporate into your décor, however, and these tips will help you get started.

Easy To Clean Surfaces

The simplest option to choose when you have allergies is to stick with furniture and décor that is easy to clean. Leather or vinyl sofas and chairs can be wiped down easily, and won’t be damaged from frequent cleaning. Solid wood and glass are also excellent options for tables and decorative items.

If you prefer fabric, then you can choose a hypoallergenic option, and remember to vacuum at least once a week. Choose furniture that can hold up to frequent cleanings, and stick with materials that won’t cause a flare up for your allergies.

Flooring

Your floors can be a trap for dust, especially if you have shag or other long carpeting. Modern options such as jute rugs are dust resistant, and can be cleaned regularly using a vacuum. If you love carpeting, then choose an indoor outdoor version that is shorter, and use a steam cleaner to remove allergens regularly in addition to vacuuming.

Window Treatments

One of the most commonly overlooked areas for those who suffer from allergies are the window treatments. Items such as draperies should be washed frequently, and blinds should be thoroughly dusted or vacuumed on a regular basis. Newer materials, such as bamboo window blinds, are an easy to care for choice that can be dusted easily.
