Garden Candle Lantern: Make It, Use It, and Even Earn From It!
Garden candle lanterns are a great way to add drama to a place, most especially at night. Depending on the style and design, it can transform a dull room to a romantic, relaxing, or a calm one. There are candle lanterns made from wood, metal, and clay; and they are usually very expensive. But did you know that you can make beautiful and expensive-looking candle lanterns from trash?
Yes, you read it right. If you only use your creativity and imagination, I am sure that you can create good candle lanterns. You can even make it a source of income!
One great idea is to make candle lanterns from empty soda cans.
So, how do you start?
First, you want to take off the print on the can. You can use a sand paper to scrub off the print and reveal a clean surface. If you had problems of pinching the can, you can fill it up with sand or frozen water to maintain the form of it.
Second, is to find a good design for your candle lantern. I suggest that you search for patterns and prints because they make great shades to the lantern. You can cut those out from a magazine and tape it on the can.
For the next step, get a thick needle to make punctures on the can. Follow the patterns on the paper and start making holes on the aluminum can. Don’t worry because the can is thin, so the needle won’t break that easily –just be careful on puncturing yourself.
Now, you’re halfway finished! Carefully cut out the top of the can with a cutter or a knife. The opening should be big enough for the candle to fit. Once you’re done, you can punch two holes on the sides of the can and insert a thin wire for the handle. It is okay if you prefer your lantern without a handle, it’s up to you.
After that, you can check if there are patterns left undone. Once the pattern is completed, you can take off the paper pattern used and check again. Add some finishing touches like paint and other embellishments.
Now, for the final touch, place a tea light candle inside your lantern. You now have a lantern to use, or even sell!
